Jingzhou Miao and Dong Autonomous County locates in Hunan Province, near the border where Hunan Province and Yunnan Province meets. To the north, that is the city of Huitong. To the south that is the city of　Suining. To the East, that is Tongdao. To the west, that is Liping, Jinping and Tianzhu, the threes towns in Guizhou. The distance from South to north of Jingzhou is 58 km. The distance from west to east of Jingzhou is 68km. Jingzhou is about 2200.51 square kilometers in area. It has got 16 town, 184 village, 7 residents’ committee. By the end of 1988, the population in Jingzhou is 218286. 188180 of them were working on argriculture. The population of Miao and Dong were 115622. That was 52.97 in all.　

　　Art that is folded mountain area of Xue Feng Mountain and the eastern part of the Yungui Plateau, the mountain region becomes the main geographical characters in Jingzhou. As an old saying in Jingzhou says: “ 85% are hills and mountains, 10% are cultivated land, the other 5% are rivers, lakes and houses.” The eastern, western, southern parts of the area which Jingzhou located in are higher than the northern part. In the middle of this area, there is a basin plain between the mountains. The mountains are covered with green plants. And 43 of the mountains reach the height of over 1000 meters above the sea. The name of the highest mountain is Qingding, 1178 meters. “Qingding” in Chinese means dark green. The mountain is high. It has got deep valleys in it. All the area of the mountain is covered with thick green plants. The whole mountain appears to be in dark green. The mountain region acquires 80.84% of the whole land in Jingzhou. Most of the mountains are between 600-1000 meters above the sea level. Few ones are between 300-500 meters. Besides the mountain region, Jingzhou still has got few hills, plains, rivers and lakes.

　　The basin plain is in the middle of Jingzhou. It only acquires 6.92% of the area in this town. It locates near the river or in the basin between the mountains. The lowest point on the plain is at Taiyangping County’s Xianyang, only 278 meters above the sea level. The plain land is suitable for plough and seeding. The sunlight, temperature and supply of water for irrigation is better than any other places in Jingzhou.

　　The small streams, rivers, rivulet crisscross over the countryside. This is another special feature in Jingzhou’s geomorphology. The name of the main river across the town is Qu River. There are 42 first grade branch rivers from it. Qu River and the branches enter the town from the eastern and western parts of the mountain region. The shape of the whole hydrographical net is like the shape of the branches on the tree. Qu River has another name, Qu Jiang. It originates from Liping in Guizhou and Chengbu in Hunan. It crosses 5 towns in Jingzhou winding 72.5 km. Qu River flow into Luan river at Tuokou village in Qianyang County as one of the branches of Luan river.

　　The special geographical configuration resultes to Jingzhou’s special climates. The climate here is the subtropical with monsoon. It changes with different terrains. It is a typical mountain climate. The climate at the bottom and the top of a mountain are quite different. It changes with height. The sunlight，temperature ，air and precipitation are just in the common level. According to the statistics from the weather center, the duration of the sunshine in a year is 1336 hours. The average temperature is 16.6 C. The precipitation is 1371.3 mm. The frost-free period is 290 days. The climate is suitable for farming, forest industry, animal husbandry and fishing industry.

　　Jingzhou has got the advantageous geographical position, the special geographical configuration and the suitable climate. All of these help Jingzhou become a beautiful place which is plentiful in products. It has the nature’s treasure.
